I will be making my annual picks for the films I deem to be Oscar worthy ---based on the nominated films.  Otherwise, I'd be voting for "Mudbound" for just about everything.

I have probably seen more than most, and I will point out where the gaps are.

Today, Best Supporting Actress  (I, seen them all)

 I love Allison Janney, but that's how much I hated her in "I Tonya".

Take away her charm, and there's nothing left.

The others were all fine, but none of them had the good sense of being Laurie Metcalf.

Great performance in a great film

In most years, I tend to favor great performances in rotten movies.

Along those lines, I could vote for Willem Dafoe, Woody Harrelson, or Sam Rockwell.

Christopher Plummer was wonderful in the movie he had 20 minutes to prepare for.

But Richard Jenkins was so great in such a great movie, that I have to give it to him.

Report Card---Darkest Hour.

Do you like movies where Winston Churchill wins World War 2?
Then you'll like this one.
It's no worse than any of the others.
It's better because of Gary Oldman's performance as Winnie.
It's a great movie.

Is it interesting?

Totally

Compelling even?

Often.

Is it good storytelling?

Very good.

Is it well written?

Very.

Is it well cast? Well played?

Yes.  Oldman is great.

A+.

Well shot?

Very.
A+.

Did the director put such a personal stamp on it so that no one else could have made it?

I don't know.

How long does it take to establish the film's locale and time period?

It begins at Munich, and proceeds through the war.  All you need.  You don't have to take it all the way to where he loses the 1951 election.

Is it too long? Too short?

About right.

Is it believable? Do you care about the characters?.

Yes, and yes.

Is it predictable?

Totally.  What do you think?  The German won?

Do you think about it after you've seen it?

No.

Is it funny?

Has its moments.

Would it have been worth the thirteen bucks it would have cost to see it in the movies?
