Trini Lopez

There are some things that just never made much or indeed any sense to me.
One is the singing career of Trini Lopez.
He emerged in the early sixties and had a couple of huge hit records, both recorded live in a nightclub
setting, with the audience singing along with him.
You could just hear his voice barely above the audience's.
Because his audience loved him, and he didn't have much of a voice.
Or much of a personality.
He was a member of the original Rat Pack.
I know this because he appeared on the Soupy Sales Show and said in the infamous moment, when Frank Sinatra allowed himself to be hit in the face by one of Soupy's pies,  Lopez was handed the immortal line "You can't do that to my leader!"
He went on to appear as one of the original "Dirty Dozen", not having had any previous acting experience.
And not a lot after that.
And then, he kind of disappeared.
I think it was best summed up by a talent coordinator on the Mike Douglas Show, to tried to describe
her most challenging assignment:  "Trying to make Trini Lopez seem interesting".

How To Watch "Morning Joe".

Now don't get me wrong.
I love watching Morning Joe.
I watch it every morning that it's on.
I'm totally aboard with its politics.
But it has aesthetic excesses that need to be addressed.
Such as Joe Scarborough's ego, for one.
It seems like just about every day, one of the other panelists feels compelled to tell Joe
"You're exactly right, Joe.  That's exactly right."  Joe seems to thrive on this.
It's kind of like Trump.
And I like Joe.
And I don't like Trump.
"Morning Joe" is a three-hour show.
And after the first two hours, they rerun the first half-hour.
And they never allude to it.
Joe's wife, Mika Brzezinski, appears to be a real ballbuster.
And she simpers way too much.
And, of course, they book the Rev. Al Sharpton way too often.
And they show Trump far more often than I want to look at him.
But they probably do the best Trump-bashing on TV.
So in my eyes, they really can do no wrong.
