Report Card---"Boy Erased"

This is a movie about gay-conversion.  Or rather, anti-gay conversion.
It doesn't seem to take place in the present.
Rather about at least ten years ago.
It is difficult to think that it still goes on today.
By the time it ends, it is established that it starts at least ten years ago.
It's a much better buy if you think it's not in the present.
It is of course,  anti anti-gay conversion.

On to the scoring.

Is it interesting?

Always.

Occasionally.

Is it good storytelling?

Very good.

Is it well written?

Very.

Is it well cast? Well played?

Very good.  Nicole Kidman and Lucas Hedges in particular.
Russel Crowe is the father and is quite good.
A+.

Well shot?

Very well.  But the lighting seems unnecessarily dim most of the time.

Did the director put such a personal stamp on it so that no one else could have made it?

I don't think so.

How long does it take to establish the film's locale and time period?

That's the major problem.
