Report Card---"Pain And Glory".

"Pain And Glory" is that rare thing--a foreign language film that I was able to sit through.
This is more a comment about me than about the film.
And why I won't be doing a Report Card about "Parasite".
I couldn't get past the first fifteen minutes of "Parasite".
Again, my fault.              

On to the scoring of "Pain And Glory". 

Is it interesting?

Yes. Very.

Compelling even?

Often.

Is it good storytelling?

Yes.

Is. it well written?

Yes.

Is it well cast? Well played?

Antonio Banderas is terrific.  He certainly deserves his Oscar nomination.

Did the director put such a personal stamp on it so that no one else could have made it?

Very much so.  Pedro Almodovar's  fingerprints are all over it.

How long does it take to establish the film's locale and time period?

Immediately.   The present, and flashbacks too Banderas' childhood.

Is it too long? Too short?

Not a problem.

Is it believable? Do you care about the characters.

Yes, and yes.

Is it predictable?

No.

Do you think about it after you've seen it?

Yes.

Is it funny?

Here and there.

Would it have been worth the thirteen bucks it would have cost to see it in the movies?

Perhaps.

Is it impressive?

Yes. Very.
